YEG Today Privacy Policy

YEG Today does not require you to create an account and does not directly collect information such as your name, email address, password, or payment information.

Certain features may access or process limited information necessary to provide their functionality. This may include:

• Approximate or precise device location when you grant location permission
• Locations or destinations entered into the Route Planner
• Addresses or locations you choose to save for supported local features
• App preferences and settings stored locally on your device
• Favorite transit stops and other saved selections
• Technical information that may be processed by third-party services used by the app, such as advertising or external data providers

We do not sell your personal information.

YEG Today may request access to your location while you are using the app. Location access is optional and is used only for features that benefit from knowing your current location.

YEG Today may also use a Home Location derived from an Edmonton address you select. This saved Home Location is stored locally on your device and can be used for supported location-based features without requiring continuous access to your device's GPS location.

Location may be used for the following purposes:

ETS and Nearby Stops Your location may be used to identify Edmonton Transit Service (ETS) stops near you and to provide nearby transit information.

Traffic Information Your location may be used to show traffic disruptions, road incidents, construction, or other transportation information that is more relevant to your area.

Route Planning When you use the Route Planner, your current location, selected origin, destination, or related geographic coordinates may be sent to YEG Today's backend service and processed using Google Routes and/or Google Places services in order to calculate routes, resolve places, and provide transit directions.

Nearby Services Your location may also be used to identify nearby facilities, services, parking information, or other location-based information available through YEG Today.

Home Address and Home Location When you select an Edmonton Home Address, YEG Today may use Google Places through YEG Today's backend infrastructure to resolve that address to a Home Location. Resolving a Home Location is optional and separate from selecting a Home Address for garbage collection purposes — if resolution is unsuccessful, your selected garbage address remains unaffected. When available, the resulting Home Location is stored locally on your device and can be used for supported nearby features such as traffic, events, nearby services, gas prices, parking, and nearby transit stops. The Route Planner's current-location feature continues to use your device's live GPS location rather than the saved Home Location.

YEG Today requests foreground location access only. The app does not request continuous background location access or "Always" location permission.

If you deny location permission, the app will remain usable, but some location-based features may be unavailable or may provide less personalized results.

YEG Today uses Google services for certain Route Planner functionality.

When you search for a place, select an origin or destination, or request a route, relevant search information and geographic coordinates may be transmitted through YEG Today's backend infrastructure and processed by Google services such as Google Places and Google Routes.

YEG Today does not expose its private Google API credentials to the mobile application.

Information processed by Google is subject to Google's applicable privacy policies and terms.

YEG Today provides information using public or third-party data sources, including sources related to:

• Edmonton Transit Service (ETS)
• City of Edmonton Open Data
• Traffic and road disruptions
• Public events
• Weather
• Edmonton Oilers and NHL information
• Local news
• Garbage collection and other municipal information

Some information may be retrieved from external providers or public APIs.

YEG Today does not control the privacy practices of third-party websites or services that you may open from the app.

YEG Today may display news headlines, event information, municipal information, and links to third-party websites.

When you select an external article, event, government service, or other external link, the destination may open in your browser or another application.

Once you leave YEG Today, your interaction with that website or service is governed by the privacy policy and terms of the third party.

YEG Today is not responsible for the privacy practices or content of external websites.

YEG Today uses Google AdMob to display advertisements in certain areas of the app.

Advertising may appear in locations such as the Home, Events, Transit, and News sections.

YEG Today currently requests non-personalized advertisements from Google AdMob. However, Google and its advertising technologies may still process certain technical information as necessary to deliver advertisements, prevent fraud and abuse, measure performance, comply with legal requirements, and operate the advertising service.

Such information may include device or app information, IP address, and other technical information processed by Google in accordance with its policies.

YEG Today does not receive your name, password, or other account credentials through AdMob.

Google's handling of information is governed by its own policies.

YEG Today uses local device storage to remember preferences and provide certain features without requiring an account.

Information stored locally may include:

• Language preference
• Light, Dark, or System appearance preference
• Temperature unit preference
• Walking-distance preference
• Notification preferences
• Home screen configuration
• Favorite transit stops
• Saved selections used by supported app features
• Selected Home Location, when resolved
• Garbage collection address and schedule information
• Cached parking or nearby-service information
• Other temporary cached data used to improve app functionality

Where a feature requires an address or location selection, that information may also be stored locally on your device so that the feature can continue to work without requiring you to enter the same information repeatedly.

YEG Today does not store passwords, authentication tokens, private API credentials, or payment information in its local preference storage.

These settings and selections are stored on your device and are not a YEG Today account or user profile. Where applicable, you can remove them by changing the relevant setting, clearing the app's data, or uninstalling the app.

YEG Today may provide notification-related features in future versions of the app.

Unless a notification feature is explicitly available and enabled in the version of YEG Today you are using, YEG Today does not use your notification settings to subscribe you to remote push notifications.

If notification functionality is introduced or expanded in the future, YEG Today may request notification permission from your device when you choose to enable the relevant feature.

This Privacy Policy will be updated if the notification functionality materially changes the types of information processed by YEG Today.

YEG Today does not currently use a dedicated third-party analytics or crash-reporting SDK to create user analytics profiles.

Third-party services used by the app, including advertising providers, may perform their own measurement, diagnostics, security, fraud prevention, and service-operation activities according to their respective privacy policies.

If YEG Today adds dedicated analytics or crash-reporting services in the future, this Privacy Policy will be updated as appropriate.

YEG Today does not sell your personal information.

Information may be transmitted to third-party service providers only when necessary to provide app functionality.

Examples may include:

• Google services for place search and route planning
• Google AdMob for advertising
• Public data and information providers used by YEG Today
• External websites that you choose to open

The information transmitted depends on the feature you use.

YEG Today does not provide third parties with passwords or account credentials because YEG Today does not require a user account for its standard functionality.

Most YEG Today preferences and saved information are stored locally on your device.

Locally stored information generally remains on your device until you change the relevant setting, remove the saved information, clear the app's data, or uninstall the application.

Temporary information processed by YEG Today's backend services may be processed as necessary to respond to a request, operate the service, enforce security and usage limits, diagnose technical problems, or comply with legal obligations.

Third-party providers may retain information according to their own privacy policies and retention practices.

YEG Today uses reasonable technical measures designed to protect information processed through the app and its backend services.

These measures include practices such as:

• Using HTTPS for production network communication
• Keeping private service credentials on backend systems rather than embedding them in the mobile application
• Validating requests sent to backend services
• Applying rate limits and usage quotas to certain backend functionality
• Limiting the information stored locally by the app
• Avoiding unnecessary collection of account or authentication information

However, no method of electronic transmission, processing, or storage can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

YEG Today is a general local-information application and is not designed specifically for children.

YEG Today does not knowingly collect names, email addresses, account credentials, or other account-based personal information from children.

If we become aware that personal information has been collected in a manner that requires deletion under applicable law, we will take reasonable steps to address it.

You can control certain privacy-related features through your device and app settings.

You may:

• Allow or deny location permission
• Change location permission through iOS Settings
• Choose whether to use location-based features
• Change language and appearance preferences
• Remove saved favorites, Home Location, or other locally stored selections where supported
• Clear locally stored app information by removing the application
• Choose whether to open third-party websites or services

Disabling a permission may reduce the functionality of features that depend on that permission.

YEG Today relies on third-party services and public data providers to provide some features.

These services operate under their own privacy policies and terms. YEG Today does not control how a third-party service processes information after information has been transmitted to that service or after you leave YEG Today to visit an external website.

You should review the privacy policies of third-party services if you would like additional information about their practices.

We may update this Privacy Policy when YEG Today changes, when new functionality is introduced, when third-party services change, or when legal or regulatory requirements require an update.
