Privacy Policy

YEG Today does not provide account creation or login, maintain YEG Today user profiles, or require your name, account email address, password, or profile information to use the app.

The app may process location and network information when you use certain features. It also stores selected preferences locally on your device. YEG Today does not currently include a separate dedicated analytics service or a dedicated crash-reporting SDK. Providers used for other features, including advertising, may perform measurement, security, or diagnostics under their own privacy practices.

With your permission, YEG Today uses foreground location to provide nearby and locally relevant features. Location permission can be changed or disabled through iOS Settings.

Location is not handled in the same way for every feature. Some comparisons can occur on your device, while some geographic queries or route-planning requests transmit coordinates to YEG Today infrastructure or relevant third-party services.

Nearby ETS stops. The app sends latitude and longitude as part of a geographic query to Edmonton Open Data / Socrata to find stops near you.

Traffic. Traffic disruption data is downloaded, and your location is used to determine which disruptions are nearby.

Route planning. When you request a route, origin coordinates may be sent to YEG Today's backend. The backend uses Google Routes and Google Places to provide route results, place autocomplete, and place details.

Other local features. Location may also be used to make information more relevant to your area. If permission is denied, location-based functionality may be unavailable or reduced.

YEG Today uses backend infrastructure for route planning and Google Places functionality. Like other internet services, the backend receives the network IP address associated with a request.

For certain backend requests, YEG Today uses a one-way keyed hash of the request's IP address to enforce rate limits and help prevent abuse. The Firestore rate-limit records contain this hashed identifier, request counters, and related timestamps rather than the raw IP address.

Minute-window rate-limit records expire after approximately 24 hours, and hour-window records expire after approximately 7 days.

YEG Today currently uses Google Mobile Ads / AdMob to show banner advertising on the Home, Events, Transit, and News screens. The app currently requests non-personalized ads.

Google Mobile Ads may process device, network, advertising, or technical information needed to deliver, measure, secure, and operate advertising according to Google's applicable privacy practices. YEG Today does not represent that Google processes no technical information, and this policy does not state that personalized advertising or cross-app tracking is used.

YEG Today uses or interacts with public and third-party services and data sources, including Edmonton Open Data / Socrata; ETS / Edmonton GTFS and GTFS-Realtime data; Google Routes; Google Places; Google Mobile Ads / AdMob; weather and traffic data services; event data services; NHL / Oilers data; and news sources.

YEG Today does not own or control these third-party services or data sources. Requests and information processed by them are subject to their applicable terms and privacy practices.

Local preferences remain on your device until they are changed, cleared, or removed with the app, subject to your device's behavior. Backend rate-limit records expire after approximately 24 hours for minute-window records and approximately 7 days for hour-window records.

Retention by third-party providers is governed by their respective practices. YEG Today cannot delete information controlled independently by those providers.

You can change or disable location and notification permissions through iOS Settings. Location-based functionality may be reduced when location permission is disabled. You may remove locally stored preferences by clearing app data or uninstalling the app where applicable.

YEG Today does not have user accounts, so there is no YEG Today account to delete. You may contact us with a privacy, access, correction, or deletion request concerning information YEG Today actually maintains. Because no user profile is maintained, there may be no identifiable profile record or personal dataset associated with you.
